NEW BLACK THIN FILM COATING FROM SURFACE TECHNOLOGY PLC PROVIDES SUPERIOR CORROSION AND WEAR RESISTANCE
A new black thin film coating – ‘TriCem® 3800’ – developed by the Armourcote® division of Surface Technology plc, provides corrosion and wear resistance that dramatically exceeds the performance of zinc, zinc alloy and electroless nickel plated finishes in thin film coating applications, where high surface durability and the optimum life of components are primary requirements.
Described by the company as “the next generation in black metal finishing technology”, TriCem 3800 has a high bond strength and adheres to a wide range of substrates, including all steel alloys, sintered metal, aluminium, cast iron, brass and copper. It gives a film thickness of less than 20 microns and is available in WEEE/RoHS and ELV compliant versions. It has a smooth, lubricious and hydrophobic surface and, during rigorous testing, has been proved to exhibit more than 2000 hours’ salt spray corrosion resistance to white corrosion. Added to this, Tri-Cem 3800 contains no cyanides, ammonia or arsenic, so also conforms to current environmental legislation.
“For optimum surface coverage, corrosion and wear resistance, this high performance thin film coating outperforms currently available alternatives,” says David Miller, Chief Operating Officer for Surface Technology-Armourcote. “We are confident that in most thin film coating applications – particularly in the aerospace, automotive and electronics sectors – TriCem 3800 will achieve significant production benefits in terms of enhanced surface protection and reduced process times.”
Part of Norman Hay plc, Surface Technology plc, operating through its Armourcote division, is a highly regarded specialist in the application of high performance coatings and plated finishes, and has a 60-year history in the surface engineering industry. It has been closely involved in the development and introduction of many cutting-edge surface coatings for specific applications in all market sectors.
Armourcote works closely with its Norman Hay plc sister companies – Plasticraft, Ardrox Engineering and Ultraseal – which manufacture capital equipment and associated specialist chemistry for surface treatment/plating, non-destructive testing and porosity sealing applications, respectively. Surface Technology plc’s administrative headquarters are in Coventry, and it operates specialised coating facilities in East Kilbride, Irvine, Coventry, Leeds, Bradford and Slough.
Exclusive global licensee for ‘TriCem® 3800’
Surface Technology plc has exclusively licensed SurTec International GmbH as its global provider of the new Tri-Cem 3800 surface coating technology. The global license includes all applications and includes the registered trademark ‘TriCem®’. Under this agreement Surface Technology plc will be the exclusive coater for the process in the UK.
SurTec International, based in Germany, has a substantial global capacity in the production and service of high-value process chemistry for the surface finishing industry. The license will allow the company to sub-license in all world markets and introduce the patented process chemistry and procedures required for the efficient operation of TriCem 3800 technology.
